- 1 ham (7-8 lb) fully cooked bone-in or boneless ham (offers the best flavor and moisture)
- 1 cup brown sugar (forms the base of the glaze)
- 1/4 cup Dijon or Yellow Mustard (adds tangy balance)
- 1 cup apple cider or pineapple juice (enhances the glaze)
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (optional deepening sweetness)
- 1/4 cup butter (enhances glaze’s adherence)
- 8 whole cloves (adds subtle spice)
Instructions
- Unwrap the ham and pat it dry with paper towels. Trim any excess fat, if necessary, and score the surface in a diamond pattern if desired. Optionally, stud the ham with whole cloves for added flavor.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, Dijon or yellow mustard, and apple cider. Stir in melted butter and taste to decide if you’d like to add honey or maple syrup for extra sweetness.
- Place the ham cut-side down into the slow cooker. Carefully pour the glaze evenly over the ham, ensuring the glaze gets into the crevices for maximum flavor absorption.
- Cover the slow cooker and set it on LOW heat for 5–7 hours. It’s ready when the internal temperature reaches 140°F and the ham is tender and juicy.
- If you’re home while it cooks, baste the ham with the glaze every hour to enhance the flavor and moisture.
- When the cooking time is complete, remove the ham from the slow cooker. Pour the leftover glaze into a saucepan and simmer until thickened. Drizzle this glorious glaze over the ham slices before serving warm.
